The 2020 Chinese National Symposium on Systematic and Evolutionary Botany

On 26–28 November 2020, the Chinese National Symposium on Systematic and Evolutionary Botany (also known as 14th Young Scholar's Symposium) was held at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Menglun, Yunnan Province, China. The symposium sponsored by Society China (BSC), organized Professor Yao-Wu Xing from XTBG. series has been every other year regularly last decade. More than 500 participants 141 institutes/universities gathered XTBG to attend person, there were also more 200 online participants. brought together plant systematics evolutionary biology community discuss advances systematics, biodiversity resources conservation, general. Four workshops launched 25 November, covering “Taxonomy tropical plants”, “Inference divergence times”, “Organelle genome assembly analyses”, “Plant genomics”. At Opening Ceremony 26 Jin Chen (Director XTBG), Xiao-Quan Wang (Vice Chairman BSC, Director Institute Botany, CAS), De-Yuan Hong (Academician CAS) addressed symposium. included four colloquia taxonomy resources”, “Paleobotany”, “Phylogenetics biogeography”, “Speciation adaptive evolution”, concurrent sessions. There 130 contributed oral presentations 47 posters. Before Closing 28 ten young investigators presented plenary talks addition three speeches delivered established scientists. In closing, De-Zhu Li (Kunming provided a summary symposium, made an appeal for innovative evaluation basic sciences, inspiring botanists confront challenges facing discipline taxonomy. very successful well attended many systematists biologists (Fig. 1). Throughout days, active exchanges form questions/answers, discussions, comments. next proposed be South Garden, CAS Guangzhou, Guangdong 2022.
